Gujino Group, Women of the Sun
Ten years ago, six women from Shafiabad village, a village located on the edge of the Lut Desert in Iran, came together and changed their fate and that of the village by forming the Gujino Group. Initially, by producing handicrafts and also selling them to tourists who came to the village to visit the Lut Desert, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, these women were able to save the village aqueduct from drying out with a portion of their income by paying for dredging. After a while, the village women were able to attract more women to their group and took an important step, along with the men of the village, towards a settlement on the edge of the scorching Lut Desert.
